See, Xavia had been so excited to notice the officers that she failed to remember that those vile men had put a guard dog on the ground floor… and unfortunately for her, she and the firewood were on the second floor!
As if things couldn’t get any worse, Leo returned around then and said, “Here’s my account book! Actually, hold on! You two should stay away from the cowshed! Believe me when I say that this dog loves biting strangers!”
Before the officers could reply, Leo had already pushed them out and closed the door behind him as he added, “Look, the dog has already eaten several chickens and ducks in the village, and though plenty of the residents wanted to kill it in the past, I told them that this would be the only thing guarding this boy once I finally kicked the bucket. Anyway, just stay away from it or you’ll get bitten for sure! Here, have a look at my account book as I fill the dog’s bowl.”
Honestly, Leo hadn’t needed to say all that since they weren’t planning on getting bitten in the first place. What’s more, there were plenty of other people to check on in the village, so after skimming through the booklet, they eventually replied, “…We appreciate the concern. Anyway, keep the account book on hand. We’ll be conducting such censuses quite regularly from now on…”
Nodding in response, Leo then watched them walk off… and once they were gone, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Xavia herself was already in tears. They… They had missed her… And she had missed the opportunity to get rescued…! What were the odds of something like this happening again…?! Though her ankles and wrists were all bloodied, the defeated woman was too numb to even register the pain anymore… It didn’t take long for her to hear swiftly approaching footsteps… and as expected, it was Leo.
Glowering at her, Leo yelled, “You disobedient bitch…! You were trying to catch their attention, weren’t you?! Have you not learned your lesson yet?!”
