The Parsons family’s illegitimate child was never acknowledged.
Laurinda never married her whole life, and that child was the only one she had out of wedlock. It was only natural for her to want to secure something for her son’s future.
The problem was, she chose the wrong path.
“She doesn’t own many shares herself, but if you add in the smaller companies under the Parsons family that she manages, it’s more than enough for her and her son to live comfortably,” Kent said, pausing as his handsome features tightened with a frown.
“But Laurinda’s downfall was her greed,” he continued.
A small fortune like that should have been enough for Laurinda, but she always wanted more.
Realizing what Laurinda was after, Silvia couldn’t help but knit her brows, feeling a headache coming on.
With a family as powerful as the Parsons, things rarely changed once the dust settled. Positions stayed put, and no one rocked the boat.
Besides, now that Kent was running Parsons Group, the company had risen to the top of the industry under his leadership. Even if someone from the Parsons family was looking for protection, no one would go so far as to undermine Kent just for Laurinda’s sake.
Silvia’s thoughts came to a halt. She glanced at Kent with a teasing smile, a spark of amusement in her eyes. “Kent, your family situation sounds like something out of a royal succession drama.”
She’d heard stories of ruthless infighting in old-money families, but Kent’s family took it to another level.
Kent caught the playful expression on her face, and a faint smile flickered in his eyes.
Once, he’d found this life exhausting. But now, with Silvia by his side, he suddenly saw that life could be different.
“Kent,” Silvia called softly, watching him with a gentle smile, laughter dancing in her eyes.
