"That's right!" The person on the other end double-checked both addresses and replied to Silvia in a rush, barely able to hide their excitement. "Ms. Ashford, judging by the building numbers, it looks like your new place is right next door to Mr. Barlow’s. This is…"
How awkward.
If they followed Silvia to her new company, they'd end up running into Shipley every single day. It was uncomfortable enough to jump ship while Shipley was relocating his business—now it looked downright embarrassing.
But Silvia wasn’t thinking about that at all. Her mind was on something else entirely.
Just her luck—of all the office buildings in the city, she had to pick the one right next to Shipley’s!
Still, the renovations were already underway, and the rent had been paid. Moving now would be a waste.
Silvia had always played fair; she wasn’t about to take a loss just because of Shipley. It was a massive office complex—what could Shipley possibly do to her anyway?
With that thought, she felt a little better. She picked up the phone and told her colleague, "It’s fine. If you want to come over, you can head this way now."
The contractors were quick—the place would be ready in just a couple of days.
Once her colleagues got familiar with the city, they could start immediately.
"Great!" The reply was cheerful, and then the call ended.
Silvia held her phone, but any trace of a smile had faded. Her eyelid kept twitching nervously.
Shipley really was a thorn she just couldn’t seem to shake.
