When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 372

Dorothea nodded, her voice quiet but firm. “Scott, I really don’t want to sleep yet. I’ll just rest on the couch for a while.”

Ladd looked concerned. “That’s not an option, Dorothea. You need to go to your room and get some proper sleep. Leave the phone out here. If it rings, we’ll wake you up.”

Pauline echoed him softly. “Dorothea, we’re all going to need your help later, and you’re pregnant now. Please don’t stay up all night, it’s not good for you.”

Everyone kept trying to persuade her, and Dorothea just didn’t want to make them worry more than they already did.

She didn’t want to be the reason for any more trouble in this family.

“Okay, I’ll go to my room, but I’m keeping my phone with me. I won’t shut the door, so if anything happens just call me and I’ll come right out.”

Back in her room, there was no way she could sleep. She just lay there staring at her phone, eyes wide open, waiting.

Her message notifications kept lighting up, friends sending her words of comfort and encouragement.

But what Dorothea needed wasn’t comfort. Right now, she needed some news about Latham.

Around three in the morning her phone rang loudly in the silent room. She sat up fast, heart pounding.

It was a number from overseas. She took a deep breath, pulled herself together, and answered.

“Hello?”

A strange voice came through. “You’re Latham’s wife, right? We have him. Tomorrow morning at eight. Aura Square. Bring twenty million, come alone. If you call the police, your husband dies.”

The call ended abruptly.

Scott rushed in, worry written all over his face, just as she hung up.

“Was it the kidnappers?”

Dorothea nodded. “They want ten million. The handoff is tomorrow at eight, Aura Square. They told me to go alone.”

Scott’s frown deepened, caught off guard. They want the ransom paid in the city? Maybe Latham isn’t out in the countryside after all. Maybe they’re hiding him somewhere nearby.
