When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 294

Mamie still couldn’t quite believe it. The marriage certificate was tucked into her bag, but as she walked into the office, everything felt a little surreal.

Dorothea had flown in last night and went straight to bed. Latham had even carried her to the shower before letting her sleep. After catching up on her rest, she looked a lot better this morning.

“Morning, Mamie.”

Mamie smiled. “Morning, Dorothea.”

The break room was empty, which felt like a small stroke of luck.

Dorothea stirred her coffee, glancing around before lowering her voice with a grin. “I saw all the messages in the group chat. Looks like you’re my sister-in-law now.”

Mamie rolled her eyes, trying to keep her cool. “Don’t tease. Here at work, I’m just your colleague, remember?”

Dorothea couldn’t hide her excitement. “Still, it’s pretty incredible. I guess Garth’s New Year’s wish finally came true.”

Mamie looked surprised. Dorothea explained, “You didn’t know? There’s a fountain in the garden, and every coin in there is from Garth making a wish. He’d stand there almost every day, hoping for something. If the nanny hadn’t told him to stop, that fountain would be overflowing by now.”

Mamie wanted to laugh, but her chest tightened with guilt. She owed Garth so much.

“I’ll do better by him from now on,” she said softly.

Dorothea studied her. “I know you will. But… you and Scott, this isn’t pretend anymore, is it?”

“Who told you she isn’t Garth’s mom?”

Latham blinked. “Wait, what?”

Scott said, “Don’t be so shocked. Mamie is Garth’s birth mother. I just brought my wife home. She lost her memory for a while and only recently realized Garth is her son. I haven’t told her I know why she agreed to marry me.”

Latham stared at him. “And if she remembers everything and wants to leave?”

Scott’s mouth twitched with a cold little smile. “What about you? If Dorothea finds out you’ve been nudging Albert to believe the wrong person is his parent, what then? You think she’ll stick around?”

Latham fell silent, realizing Scott had figured out more than he’d ever expected.
