"I'm stubborn, immature, and honestly, I have a bit of a temper. I'm really not girlfriend material. Plus, I absolutely hate blind dates, so I'm sorry. You're great, and you deserve someone who suits you better. You get what I mean, right?"
Carmen never held back. She always said exactly what she was thinking.
Pearson just smiled, soft and polite, as he picked up the teapot and poured her a cup of tea.
"Want to give it a try?"
Carmen eyed the dark green tea suspiciously, like she was checking for poison or something. She quickly realized how ridiculous that was, grabbed the cup, and took a small sip. "Hmm, not bad."
"As long as it doesn't taste like something for old people," Pearson said.
Carmen suddenly choked and started coughing hard.
Pearson calmly handed her a handkerchief. He came over, just close enough, and gently patted her back.
It took a minute for her to catch her breath. Her nose was red as she glanced up at Pearson, who looked as gentle as ever. Of course he brought that up on purpose. He never forgot a joke.
"Alright, I'm heading out."
Carmen figured this awkward little blind date would be over and done with, never to be mentioned again. But as soon as she got in her car, even before she made it home, her phone buzzed with a message from her mom.
Did you have a good time today? Pearson really liked you. He wants to know when you two can meet again. How about tomorrow?
Carmen just stared at her screen. Seriously?

On New Year's Eve, Scott picked Mamie up and took her to the Stephens Estate. No one was happier than Garth.
"Mamie, are you staying over tonight? We have so many rooms, you can pick whichever you want!"
Mamie looked into those hopeful eyes, then over at Scott, whose dark gaze was as deep as ever. She hesitated. "Am I intruding?"
"Not at all," Ladd jumped in. "It's gonna be late after the countdown. You should just stay here."
