When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 261

Adonis’s eyes narrowed. He looked genuinely caught off guard that Mamie knew anything.

He tried to play it cool, asking, “Mamie, who told you that?”

Mamie saw right through him. She knew that no matter how calm Adonis acted, the corner of his eye always gave him away when he lied. “Adonis, I remembered a few things from before.”

“I talked to the doctor who delivered my baby. She told me I had a son. You were the one who took me away after that, weren’t you?”

She looked straight at him. “Adonis, I also know Mom and Dad aren’t my real parents. They’re my uncle and aunt.”

And Adonis was just her cousin.

His jaw clenched and his knuckles turned white. It was obvious he hadn’t expected her to know so much.

“You remember everything?” he asked, trying to sound calm, but Mamie could tell he was fishing for information.

Mamie shook her head. “Not everything. Just some things. But I know I’m the baby’s mother. I want to see him. You can’t take that away from me.”

Until now, she still believed her child was alive.

Adonis let out a heavy sigh, regret filling his voice. “Mamie, the baby is gone.”

“What?” Her eyes flew wide. She couldn’t accept it. “How? Why? The doctor said he was healthy…”

Adonis avoided meeting her gaze. He spoke carefully, picking each word like it might break her. “The day before you gave birth, your parents got into a car accident. The shock put you into labor a week early. After the delivery, you were confused. Losing your parents like that… it left you really unstable.”

“Your boyfriend was never around. He didn’t even know you were pregnant. We had to leave the baby with a nanny. Later, he got a fever…”

“You couldn’t handle losing the baby and your parents at the same time. You tried to hurt yourself, but we got you to the hospital before anything worse happened. When you woke up, you didn’t remember anything.”

“My parents were afraid you’d do something drastic again, so they took you abroad right away. I stayed here to take care of everything for your parents and the baby.”
