When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 240

When Latham got back from his call, he found the door locked from the inside. He let out a breathy laugh, half annoyed, and called Linda to ask where she kept the spare key. Honestly, he couldn’t promise he wouldn’t tease Dorothea later for this.

He finally managed to push open the bedroom door. There she was, curled up under the covers. It wasn’t until he moved closer that he noticed she had already fallen asleep.

He reached over and gently took her small, soft hand in his own. “Babe, you’re getting sneaky. How do you think I should punish you for that?”

Dorothea was barely awake, lost in that blurry space between sleep and waking. The past few nights, Latham had kept her up so much she was desperate for rest. She refused to be that boss who showed up late and left early, so even on days when her whole body ached, she forced herself to go into the office.

Tonight, she just wanted a full night’s sleep. That’s why she’d locked the door, hoping for some real rest. But of course, Latham found a way in anyway.

He slipped a finger under her silk comforter, slowly peeling it back. His pale fingers were slick with ointment, and he couldn’t help but smile a little.

He slid his hand beneath the covers, but his eyes never left her face, watching every reaction. Dorothea shivered all over, a cool, tingly feeling sneaking across her skin. She frowned and let out a sleepy little whimper.

Seeing her like that, Latham’s gaze grew even darker. The chill on her skin started to fade, warmth rushing in its place, and Dorothea knew something wasn’t right.

She opened her eyes just a crack, her clear eyes meeting his, catching that hint of red in his gaze. “You…”

Latham tried to steady himself. “Don’t be scared, sweetheart. I’m just putting on some ointment. Try to hold still, okay?”

Dorothea’s cheeks turned bright red, her face so warm it felt like it might burn. “Latham, you liar.”

He leaned down and brushed a kiss against her soft lips. “I’m not lying. I really am just taking care of you. Don’t you like it when I do that?”

Dorothea twisted the sheets in her fists, biting down on her lip. She didn’t want to see that teasing look in his eyes, so she just closed hers tight.

But the way she looked right then, all shy and flustered, only made him happier.
