When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 217

Lanny just stared, completely at a loss for words.

Hold on. Did Latham really have a thing for Dorothea all those years ago? Then why did it take him so long to actually make a move?

Unwilling to let it go, Lanny sped up to walk beside Latham. “You’ve had that tattoo for three years, right? But you only just now got Dorothea to say yes.”

Latham shot him a crooked smile, a little smug. “Who told you I was the one doing the chasing?”

“Excuse me, Dorothea chased me.”

Lanny was speechless. He honestly couldn’t keep up with Latham’s logic and didn’t even want to try anymore.

Latham tucked his hands into his pockets, the hint of a grin on his lips. Since Dorothea proposed to him, it counted as her chasing him, right?

...

The moment they sat down at the table, Latham sensed something was off.

Dorothea’s face gave away nothing, but he could tell she wasn’t in a great mood.

“Want some shrimp?”

Dorothea shook her head. “No. I’m allergic.”

Latham tried again, still hoping to please her. “How about fish?”

“Also allergic.”

He almost laughed out of frustration. “Wait, weren’t you fine with seafood yesterday? Why are you allergic now?”

Dorothea’s voice was calm, but she was clearly picking a fight. “I’m allergic to anything you serve me.”

Latham fell quiet. So now she was allergic to him?

Dorothea picked at her food for a bit, then gave up eating altogether.

Carmen messaged her. “All done, Dorothea? How did it go, meeting your husband’s friends? Did you discover anything juicy?”

Carmen expected Dorothea to pick up on some secret, maybe even realize how deeply Latham cared about her.

But Dorothea replied quickly. “Nope, you guessed wrong. The tattoo Latham has was for someone he liked before. Probably a woman. Don’t overthink it. We’re really just dinner buddies, just getting through the day together.”

She didn’t type it, but mentally added, Maybe bed buddies too.

“Dorothea! Bye!”

“Latham, bye!”

Latham frowned a little, then quickly let it go. “You’re drunk.”

He opened the car door for Dorothea, then got in on the other side.

Dorothea paused, Levi’s words echoing in her mind. Latham was in a car accident? When did that happen?

“When were you in a car accident?”

Latham’s expression was casual. “Oh, just a fender bender. Nothing serious.”

But Levi hadn’t made it sound like nothing.

Latham glanced at her, mouth curling into a teasing smile. “Relax, Dorothea. ‘Nothing serious’ means even if I did have an accident, it didn’t affect me where it counts.”

He leaned in, voice dropping, almost flirtatious. “You’ve already seen for yourself, right?”

Dorothea shoved him away, rolling her eyes. “Be serious.”
