“Whatever. Let’s go home.”
Latham gave her a soft smile. “Yeah, let’s go.”

The venue was almost empty now. Where there had just been a crowd of guests, only a few members of the Clark and Brown families lingered, along with some staff cleaning up the mess.
Carola’s eyes were red, her voice trembling. “Albert, why are you calling off the wedding? Don’t you want me anymore?”
Albert pressed his fingers to his forehead, looking tired. “Carola, Layton, I think it’s best if we get to the bottom of that video.”
He didn’t say he didn’t trust her, but he didn’t take her side, either. Albert knew, better than anyone, that his wife couldn’t be branded as a bully. That kind of scandal could destroy their company’s reputation. He had no choice but to hit pause on the wedding.
Jarrett agreed. “Layton, Albert’s right. It needs to be investigated properly.”
Carmen, barely hiding her glee, chimed in from the side, “What’s there to investigate? That’s just the truth.”
If her mom hadn’t held her back, she would have stormed out with Dorothea already. Today was just too satisfying. It was that feeling when someone you’ve hated for years finally gets exposed for who they really are. Honestly, who could understand just how good that felt?
And Carola… Carmen had always known she wasn’t great, but she’d never expected her to be this awful. Her whole heart was rotten. It was almost unbelievable.
“Carmen, that’s enough!” Jarrett snapped, his face darker than ever.
He understood the situation perfectly. Right now, the Clark and Brown families were stuck together, whether they liked it or not. When Albert said “investigate,” what he really meant was that Layton needed to handle the rumors and calm everyone down. Once the guests got home, the gossip would spread to the media in no time. That kind of scandal could tank the Brown Group’s stock price, and the Clark Group would get dragged down, too.
Layton set his jaw. “I’ll figure out the truth. I won’t let Carola take the blame for something she didn’t do. You have my word.”
Carola felt devastated. She’d dreamed of this wedding for so long, and now, it was ruined in a single afternoon. She couldn’t accept it.
