When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 175

Albert sat in the back seat while the makeup artist did her best to hide the swelling on his forehead. From a distance, you couldn’t really tell, but up close, the bump was obvious.

“That’s fine,” Albert said, sounding irritated. “Carola, I’m going to ask the MC to keep today’s ceremony as short as possible.”

He just wanted to get through it. The excitement of getting married was long gone.

Honestly, after his car accident, he could have postponed the wedding. The fact that he didn’t was already a big favor to Carola, so she didn’t argue.

Jarrett glanced at Albert’s injury, shook his head, and shot Carola a look that was anything but friendly.

The wedding was styled like a Western ceremony. Layton took Carola’s hand and placed it in Albert’s. Latham and Dorothea still hadn’t arrived.

The MC spoke with all the usual enthusiasm, leading up to the point where they’d play the couple’s short wedding film.

The video was supposed to run about ten minutes.

“Now, please enjoy the beautiful love story of our bride and groom.”

But instead of the sweet video Carola and Albert had filmed, the screen suddenly flickered to life with a different scene. There was Carola, dressed in a school uniform.

On a playground, she walked over to a girl surrounded by several classmates. “What, you’ve never had Coke before? Come on, I’ll buy you one.”

Her smile twisted as she poured the soda straight over the girl’s head. The girl flinched and stared at the ground. Carola leaned in and whispered, her voice low and chilling. “How does it taste?”

The video cut to another scene.

In a classroom, Carola sat on the teacher’s desk, legs crossed. A thin girl was pushed forward by a group of others.

Carola tilted her chin up. “You stepped on my brand-new shoes and got them dirty. Guess you’ll have to lick them clean.”

The other girl’s voice shook with tears. Her face was blurred, but you could hear her pleading. “I’m sorry. Can I take them home and wash them?”
