Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 689

Josh’s hand was suddenly yanked back in a firm grip. Mitch raised an eyebrow. “Let’s keep it civil. There’s no reason to lay a hand on a woman.”

“Mitch.” Brenda’s eyes brightened with relief and she grabbed for his arm, slipping behind him for protection.

Josh scowled and jerked his hand free. “Is everybody here losing their minds over a woman or what?”

Mitch shot a look around at the group, his brows up but voice steady. He reached for Brenda, pulling her gently back into view. “Let’s hear what’s going on.”

As Brenda opened her mouth to speak, Josh jumped in, voice hard. “Julian’s donating his corneas to Madeline.”

“Is that true?” Mitch’s dark eyes pinned Brenda, waiting.

She met his gaze, unreadable and deep, then gave a small, silent nod.

Mitch’s expression barely changed, but his gaze sharpened. “Someone open the door.”

Brenda let go of his arm, her frustration bursting out. “Mitch, who are you even helping here?”

He glanced at her, eyes flicking down to her stomach. “If you can magically produce my kid right now, maybe I’ll take your side.”

Brenda turned pale, her hands flying to her flat belly. There was no baby, just some desperate lie she’d blurted earlier. Mitch’s cold stare bore into her, making her want to shrink away. She had never felt so exposed, or so pressured.

Meanwhile, the commotion had grown loud enough that a nurse, panicked, dashed off to fetch the chief doctor and the hospital director.

These were important men in the Capital. The moment the director saw who was gathered in the hallway, worry creased his brow. He hurried over. “Josh, what’s going on here?”

Josh shot him a withering glare. “Perfect timing. Get inside and tell them to stop the surgery.”

The director froze, Josh’s hand gripping his arm tightly. He found himself staring into Josh’s chilling eyes.

Stop the surgery?

A nervous sweat broke out along his temples. How on earth had his hospital managed to get tangled up with this crowd?

Brenda, squeezed by so many stares, suddenly lifted her voice. “You can’t stop it.”

The director looked between them, torn and pale. “Josh, they’ve already started. We can’t just cancel a surgery in the middle.”
