Madeline’s brows arched just a little. “Actually, there is something. And you’re the only one I can ask.”
“Go ahead.”
Andrew wondered if Madeline had figured out he was set to marry Helene, maybe thought she’d want his help making Helene’s life miserable later on.
But after she finished, his gaze sharpened. “You trust me with this?”
“You told me everything you’ve done. That means you’ve got integrity. And honestly, the guilt fits. You’re perfect for this.”
Andrew blinked and looked away. “You know James. He could help, too.”
Madeline offered a small smile, saying nothing.
Andrew laughed, low and knowing. “Right. James has a thing for you. He’d never agree to something like this.”
“So, are you in or not?”
He let out a soft laugh. “Sure. As long as you don’t end up regretting it. For me, it’s just a bit of work.”
“After this, we’re square.”
Andrew found himself almost admiring her. “And what I said before still stands.”
He turned and walked off.
Madeline stayed on the couch alone for a long time, lost in thoughts only she knew.
