Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 557

The SUV shot forward, moving so fast it made your heart stop. At that speed, a collision would destroy both cars.

The driver in the black car clearly had no death wish. He swerved at the very last second, but it was too late. The SUV slammed into his side with a thunderous crash, sending the black car rolling over. Glass shattered everywhere and stuff from inside flew out onto the road.

The scene was a total mess.

The SUV’s front end was smashed in, and it rolled to a stop. Inside, the driver’s eyes glinted, cold and dangerous, a hint of a cruel smile on his lips as he watched the chaos.

Madeline’s heart was pounding so hard, she thought it might actually leap out of her chest.

The second the SUV had appeared, she knew exactly who was behind the wheel.

No one else was that reckless. It could only him.

Her face darkened, and she gathered her dress in her hands. She didn’t care about her high heels digging into the pavement. She just walked straight over, every step full of purpose.

The window rolled down. Casey looked completely unfazed, like he’d done this a hundred times. He gave her a little nod, lifting an eyebrow. “What a coincidence.”

“Do you even care about your own life?” Madeline snapped at him. Her voice shook a little, still rattled by what she’d just witnessed.

It was the first time Casey had ever seen her so fierce. He just smiled, a soft, careless laugh coming out. “What’s there to be afraid of? I had it under control.”

Under control? If the other driver hadn’t chickened out, if they’d both slammed into each other head-on at that speed, they’d both be dead. There was no way to predict what would happen.

He really was insane.

Madeline was only wearing a thin evening dress, but she was already covered in cold sweat. She took a shaky breath as she saw a police car pulling up, probably because someone had called for help.

Casey just raised an eyebrow, not looking the least bit interested in leaving. His eyes lingered on Madeline for a moment, and there was something like admiration there.

But he didn’t stare. He looked away, smiling to himself. “You should go. I’ll handle everything here.”

Madeline looked at him, her heart still racing.

He’d always been like this, like his life didn’t matter, always doing the most reckless things with an attitude that said none of it fazed him. And somehow, he always managed to come out on top.

He was a legend, but a totally unhinged one.

She took another breath, finally ready to leave like he said. But as she turned, her heel caught on a broken car part left on the ground. Her foot slipped, and she started to fall.

Casey’s eyes narrowed. He moved to open the door.

But before he could, a strong arm wrapped around Madeline’s waist, steadying her and pulling her back against a very familiar chest.

Casey saw it happen. The worry on his face disappeared, and he pulled his hand back inside the car.

Madeline let out a shaky breath of relief. She glanced down at the broken parts scattered around her feet, then looked up. She met Julian’s eyes and saw the lingering worry there.

She was angry, and if she didn’t let it out, she’d suffocate.

Madeline was never the type to swallow her pride.

Meanwhile, inside the Ballard family’s grand hall, Lucy found Christian. He noticed right away that she looked pale.

“What’s going on? You look awful,” he asked.

Lucy didn’t hesitate. She repeated everything she’d told Julian earlier.

Christian frowned. “What are you talking about? Claire died years ago. The lady tonight is the Ballard family’s real daughter.”

Lucy grew anxious when she saw he didn’t believe her. “It’s true, Dad. If you saw the scar, you’d know it was her.”

Christian watched Lucy, realizing how serious she was. It surprised him that she’d recognized Claire at all. “Who else did you tell?”

“Julian. I told Julian and asked him to look into her. If she really is Claire, we can trace it all back and find the proof that she was the one who hurt me. We can finally bring her to justice.”

In her heart, Lucy added, and clear Madeline’s name for good.

She didn’t notice the way Christian’s face turned dark, deep in his own thoughts.
