Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 540

The doctor rushed in and stopped short, stunned by what he saw.

Madeline wasted no time. She knew every second counted if they wanted to save Raine. “Get her to the hospital, now,” she ordered.

The family doctor jumped into action.

Meanwhile, Claire heard what was happening and hurried over with her people. The other three from the Monroe family came with her.

They arrived just as the medics lifted Raine onto a stretcher. Her body was rigid, her eyes rolled back, and foam covered her lips. Drew and Kate rushed to her side, nearly frantic.

Kate’s eyes went wide. She screamed, “Raine! Raine, my baby, what’s happening? What is this? Someone tell me what’s going on!”

Drew’s face was ashen. He shook Raine gently, his voice trembling. “Raine? Raine?”

Madeline’s patience snapped. “If you two keep blocking the doctor, she’s not going to make it.”

Raine’s condition was dire. The poison was fast and brutal. It had only taken seconds to hit, and Raine had barely taken a sip. Madeline shuddered at the thought. If she’d been the one to drink that tea, there wouldn’t have been time for anyone to help her.

She glanced over at Claire, whose face was tight with frustration. Claire had tried to poison her in secret, but Raine had wrecked her plan.

Claire clenched her hands and stepped forward, pulling Drew and Kate away. “Let the doctor save her first. You’re in the way.”

That snapped them out of it, and they stumbled back, letting the medics rush Raine out.

The servant quickly added, “Raine called her a fake and told her to leave the Ballard family. Maybe she just snapped.”

Madeline shot a look at the servant. It was the same one who’d brought her the tea.

She looked past the servant and met Claire’s cold, spiteful eyes. In that moment, everything clicked. Claire had tried to poison her. Now that it hadn’t worked, she was trying to pin it on her instead.

Starting a fight and then poisoning someone sounded ridiculous, but without proof, that accusation could easily stick.

Word spread fast. The three elders arrived, with Sam and Brendan trailing behind. The elders looked ready to sort things out, but Sam and Brendan just looked like they were hoping for some entertainment.
