“And who exactly do you think you are, telling me that?”
Madeline couldn’t help but laugh. The Monroe family, all four of them, no, five, if you counted the plastic surgery girl, they all sounded the same. No wonder they were related.
Raine bit her lip and glared at Madeline, her voice sharp. “I’m trying to warn you, for your own good…”
Madeline set her teacup down with a loud thud that echoed through the room.
The servant standing nearby watched nervously, realizing Madeline had no intention of touching the tea.
Raine knew all too well that Madeline wasn’t someone to mess with. She’d lost to her plenty of times before, and it showed in her hesitation.
“Oh, really? Is this a friendly warning, or are you just terrified your precious half-sister will get exposed, and your whole family will end up kicked out of the Ballard house? Maybe you’re just desperate to get rid of me so you can have it all to yourselves.”
Madeline’s words hit their mark. Raine clearly didn’t have Claire’s composure—her face crumpled right away. “Shut up. You’re the fake here!”
Furious, Raine lunged for the teapot, clearly planning to dump the whole thing on Madeline.
But Madeline was already a step ahead. The second Raine reached out, Madeline grabbed the teapot with one hand and caught Raine’s wrist with the other.
In the blink of an eye, Raine felt a rush of warmth splash over her face as Madeline dumped the contents of the teapot right on her.
Raine froze. For a second, she looked completely lost, like she couldn’t even process what just happened.
It wasn’t until Madeline set the teapot back on the table, the sound echoing in the room, that Raine snapped out of it, looking like a complete mess.
“Ah!” Raine shrieked.
Her perfectly done makeup was ruined, smeared and dripping down her face. Her carefully styled hair hung in soaked, limp strands over her shoulders.
