Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 536

“I do understand,” Madeline replied, her voice calm. “It’s strange. Someone walks around with my face, takes over my identity, and then keeps calling me the imposter. I guess I’m just as scared I might never get my life back.”

Neither of them was willing to back down. Every exchange was a challenge.

Claire’s lips twitched, anger flashing in her eyes.

Madeline just smiled faintly and fell silent. Words meant nothing without proof. She knew arguing more wouldn’t get her anywhere.

Sam and Brendan noticed the tension and decided to step in before things got any worse.

Sam cleared his throat at just the right moment. “It’s partly our fault. We got held up and didn’t greet you personally. Come on, let’s head inside.”

He offered them a way out, and everyone took it. Madeline nodded and smiled, letting the matter drop.

Back in her room, Claire stormed in, grabbed the edge of the table, and swept an elegant porcelain tea set to the floor. “What a sharp-tongued bitch,” she muttered.

Drew pushed Grandma Monroe’s wheelchair to the doorway. They heard the crash and both faces darkened.

“Madeline, what happened?” Grandma Monroe remembered Claire’s warning and used her new name at the Ballard house.

Claire, eyes red with fury, shot them a look and gestured for the door to be closed before she spoke.

“That bitch Madeline is here. The banquet is tomorrow. It’s when I’m supposed to be announced as Ms. Ballard. Now she’s here, she’ll definitely stir up some drama.”

Claire clenched her fists, anger burning in her eyes.

Grandma Monroe and Drew exchanged a look. Drew’s voice was cold. “She’s always been trouble. You should watch your back.”

Claire’s fingers dug into the table. “I won’t let her ruin my plans.”

Grandma Monroe frowned. “So what are you going to do?”

Claire walked to a locked cabinet, opened it, and took out a delicate little bottle. She turned it over in her fingers, almost lovingly.

“If she wants to get in my way, then she can just disappear. The sooner, the better.”

Killing Madeline hadn’t been part of her plan this early. At first, she’d only wanted to take out Shelly and the Ballard family.

But after crossing Madeline a few times, she felt the pressure mounting. She had to speed things up.

Claire narrowed her eyes at the bottle, her gaze turning cold and ruthless.

It wasn’t her fault. Madeline was Shelly’s daughter. Madeline was in her way.

“You’re really going to do something to her? Julian’s still with her,” Grandma Monroe reminded her, concern in her voice.
