Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 14

Seeing her face flush with anger, Linton pressed his sensual lips together and tried to placate her. “Alright, so you sold it. It’s just a house. I’ll buy you a new one.”

“Is that the same thing?” Liliana suddenly felt a wave of exhaustion. It was always like this with Linton. Things that were incredibly important to her, he treated as trivial. He could never understand why she was upset, always treating her like a child throwing a tantrum.

Liliana closed her eyes. Talking to Linton was draining. “Linton, I’m too tired to argue with you anymore,” she said, her voice weak. “Just sign the resignation form so we can both move on.”

“Is this because of Isabella?” Linton mused, thinking he finally understood. He lowered his gaze and said quietly, “That was Grandfather’s idea.” Realizing just how angry Liliana had been lately, Linton was unusually patient today, breaking it down for her piece by piece. His cool voice was unhurried. “You know Isabella’s husband passed away a couple of months ago. The Grayson family blames her and kicked her out of their company. Grandfather’s idea was to give her a cushy, well-paying job here at the Cooper Group, like an allowance, so as not to hurt her pride.”

That was something Liliana hadn't considered. But what did it have to do with her? The problems between them ran much deeper than this one incident. They were too far gone. She looked at him coldly, sticking to her one demand. “Sign it. I’m resigning.”

Linton’s eyes dropped to the file on his desk, his lips tightening into a thin line. His handsome brow furrowed, as if he were suppressing his irritation. He had made a rare effort to explain things to her, to give her some face, and she had rejected him again and again. Linton was used to being in control, and he was used to Liliana’s compliance. He slowly lifted his gaze from the file, his voice turning colder, though he was still holding onto his patience. “We’ll talk about the resignation later. It’s lunchtime. I’ll take you to eat first.”
