Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 13

Liliana had to suppress a laugh. Behind every problem child is a problem parent, always using the ‘he’s just a kid’ excuse and accusing others of being petty. She was about to retort when Linton’s familiar, cool voice sounded from above her.

“Then pay her.” His deep eyes were fixed on Liliana as he spoke. “The child broke furniture Liliana liked. He should pay for it. If the child doesn't know any better, then his mother can pay.”

“Linton…” Isabella looked at him in disbelief. The whole reason she’d brought it up in front of him was because she *couldn’t* afford to pay. But instead of taking her side, he was siding with Liliana. That had never happened before.

Even Liliana was a little surprised. She had been fully prepared for Linton to defend Isabella, just like he always did. “Linton,” she said, looking at him with a complex expression. “Are you feeling alright? Did you hit your head?”

“…” Linton’s brow twitched, his cool gaze filled with an indescribable emotion. “Mr. Briggs, see that someone shows her around the company.” With that, Linton turned to head back to his office. But Isabella pointed at Liliana and smiled. “Oh, there’s no need to trouble Mr. Briggs. Liliana can show me around.”

Liliana laughed out loud. “I wouldn’t dare. Who knows what you’re really up to—like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

The air grew thick with tension as the two women faced off. Standing to the side, Noah felt his heart pounding in his chest. He was pretty sure he was learning far too much. “Mr. Cooper,” he began hesitantly. It had all happened so suddenly, he hadn't even had a chance to tell Linton that Liliana had already quit. “Actually…”

“I’ve resigned,” Liliana stated, looking directly at Linton with a smile. “Perfect timing, Mr. Cooper. A manager’s resignation requires the CEO’s approval. You can sign it now.”
