She needed to devote herself fully to the Blackwood Research Institute’s project—and her dissertation.
And soon—the second round of the ISSDS tournament was about to begin.
She had to get ready.
After advancing in the last regional qualifier, this time it was the Aurelia District finals. If she made it through, she’d have a shot at the semifinals or even the grand finals.
Lately, she’d also been working closely with the Northern Eye Team, preparing for the Aurelia finals together.
The next day.
Danielle arrived at the Blackwood Research Institute, diving into research with the team.
It was almost noon when her grandmother called.
“Dani, the doctor told me you might be dealing with low blood sugar and anemia. I asked Alex to prepare some supplements for you. I’ll have someone from the old house bring nourishing soup to your place every day. Make sure you drink it when you get home at night, all right?”
Danielle rubbed her forehead as she listened.
This wasn’t the first time her grandmother had arranged meals for her. Back when Danielle was too busy to visit, her grandmother always made sure the staff delivered something warm to eat.
But now that Danielle and Alex were divorced, it all felt a little awkward.
Still, she didn’t object. “Okay.”
If she refused, her grandmother would only nag her more.
She figured she could just hand the soup over to Alexander and let him deal with it.
“Good,” her grandmother said gently. “Don’t wear yourself out with work. I’m at the hospital visiting Alex right now. Do you want to say a few words to your husband?”
She never missed a chance to set them up.
Danielle used to play along—she even enjoyed it, once.
Danielle hesitated. “…Grandma, I’m in the middle of work—”
“I see…”
