The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 280

They had both agreed on the earliest possible appointment—nine o’clock sharp.

Danielle had barely settled into her seat in the city hall lobby when she spotted an SUV pulling up by the entrance. The car door swung open, and Alexander stepped out, composed as ever.

Several other couples arrived at the same time, each pair wearing their own blend of resentment, disappointment, or pent-up anger on their faces. The tension was almost tangible—everyone was here to end something, and no one looked happy about it.

But Danielle and Alexander were different. They seemed detached, almost serene, as if they were just acquaintances meeting by chance.

Alexander glanced at her, his voice cool. “Have you been waiting long?”

“Not really. I just got here,” Danielle replied, her gaze dropping to his hand wrapped in gauze. “Will you be able to sign with your left hand?”

He looked at her, his eyes unreadable. “What do you think?”

She shrugged inwardly. If he’d come all the way here, he must be able to manage.

“Let’s get this over with,” she said.

They moved toward the desk together, presenting their paperwork to the clerk with a quiet efficiency. The clerk, brisk and businesslike, checked their documents, then slid the divorce agreement across the counter.

“If you both confirm your decision and don’t wish to withdraw the application, please sign here,” the clerk instructed, though her eyes lingered on the two of them a moment longer than necessary.

She’d worked at city hall for years, and rarely had she seen a couple so perfectly matched—he, striking and refined; she, vibrant and beautiful. They looked as if they’d stepped out of a magazine, the embodiment of what everyone imagined newlyweds should be—except here they were, saying goodbye.

Danielle took the agreement, picked up a pen, and signed her name without hesitation.

Alexander watched her, his expression dark and unfathomable as she finished.

She glanced at him, waiting, but he made no move.

She frowned. “What’s the matter? Changed your mind?”
