As soon as she finished speaking, she turned and got into her car, driving off without another word.
Behind him, Paula’s voice drifted over, cool and cutting.
“Quite the attitude your wife has, doesn’t she? Who does she think she is, treating you like that?”
Alexander glanced back at her, his expression unreadable.
Paula wasn’t planning to stay at the old estate tonight either. She’d been on her way out when she stumbled upon the little scene.
She lowered her gaze, admiring her freshly painted nails, and went on, “Not that I blame you for looking elsewhere.”
She looked up then, meeting Alexander’s eyes with a sly smile. “Danielle’s done a complete one-eighty, hasn’t she? The way she acts around you—and the rest of us—it’s like she’s a different person. Maybe she’s been cheating on you all along.”
After all, in the past Danielle had always hung on his every word, her eyes brimming with adoration and eagerness to please.
The Davidson family had seen it all, clear as day.
But now? Everything was different.
No one changes like that without a reason.
Paula didn’t believe for a second that Alexander hadn’t noticed Danielle’s coldness. The two of them interacted like strangers these days.
Alexander’s eyes darkened. He tilted his head, a smirk tugging at his lips. “Got nothing better to do, Paula?”
She scoffed and strode toward her own car. “Please. I don’t have time to meddle in your domestic mess.”
“Just don’t drag the Davidson name through the mud, that’s all I ask.”
As she opened her car door, she shot him a final look. “One more thing—Dad spent his whole life in public service, spotless reputation and all. Don’t be the one to ruin it.”

Ninesky had just lost two partners in a row to AetherX Dynamics, and their production schedule was being squeezed tighter by the day.
When Kirsten Delaney heard the news, she slammed her files down on her desk with a furious crash.
“Damn it! Who does she think she is?”
