The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 257

Millie let out a wry smile. “Why wouldn’t they show up? With an opportunity like this, they should be tripping over themselves to attend.”

“After all, Newsworld is top of the game. Just coming here for technical exchanges would give them enough to chew on for months.”

She remembered how they used to jump at every industry summit, desperate to learn and improve. Now, with such a prime invitation, not showing up would be hard to justify.

“They said something came up last minute.”

His words were clipped and decisive.

Both Millie and Liam looked genuinely taken aback.

“Not coming?” Liam scoffed, disbelief clear in his voice. “Who do they think they are? Playing hard to get? They’re just sulking over the conditions of the deal—they signed the contract, then bail at the last minute just to spite us.”

Millie glanced over at Alexander. The man’s expression was cool, detached, as if whether they showed up or not was of no consequence to him.

Still, Alexander had personally called to invite them. Turning him down was almost an open act of disrespect.

“Maybe they really are busy,” Millie said, pouring herself another glass of wine. “A small firm landing a project this big? They’re probably running themselves ragged, in over their heads.”

“With that contract hanging over them, I doubt they have the nerve—or the time—to have dinner with us.”

She laughed, her tone light, swirling the wine in her glass. “If we lose, so what? But if they lose, they risk losing everything they’ve worked for. Years of effort, all wasted.”

She paused for a moment. It was true—why take on something you’re not equipped for? If you don’t have the skills, of course you’d be anxious.

Their defeat seemed almost inevitable at this point.

Millie handed her glass to Alexander. “She’s your ex-wife, after all. Maybe go easy on her.”

Alexander lowered his gaze to the glass, his expression unreadable.

Liam broke the silence. “Why bother pleading for her? If she hadn’t stolen your spot back then—”

Who Mrs. Davidson would be today was anyone’s guess.

A scheming woman like Danielle—only Millie could be generous enough to ask for mercy on her behalf.

He could hardly wait to see her fall.
