The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 189

Better a sharp, clean break than a slow, lingering pain. Why drag things out for years, when you can end it with a single, decisive cut?

When Kirsten and Gian heard that the divorce papers were signed and tomorrow Danielle would be heading to city hall to make it official, Kirsten immediately booked a massive booth at their favorite bar.

"We are celebrating tomorrow, no excuses! The moment you walk out of city hall, we're raising a glass to your freedom. You're finally out of that hellhole!"

"But seriously—what made him suddenly agree to sign? Wasn't he set on dragging this through the courts?" Gian asked.

Danielle stood in the corridor, her voice low as she explained how it had all unfolded.

"Unbelievable!" Kirsten blurted out, her frustration practically vibrating in her chest. "He's seriously out of his mind! Still playing the knight in shining armor for that mistress of his!"

Gian's expression darkened, his jaw clenched tight. "Five, six years of marriage, and it still couldn't end on decent terms," he muttered.

Even with the papers signed, Alexander had managed to tack on restrictions, limiting Danielle's freedom just a little longer. He wouldn't even let her leave cleanly.

"So you're just supposed to swallow this?" Kirsten was practically pacing, itching to go back in time and give them both a piece of her mind. "I couldn't stand for it!"

"Why does he get to call the shots?" she continued. "He asks for a divorce and it's done? The next thing you know, he's parading around with his mistress—now officially, with everyone's blessing!"

"You were the one who wanted out first! He hurt you, then turned around and played the victim, acting like it's all your fault. Where does he get off? Honestly, if it were me, I'd make him suffer—tell him you're not signing. Let his precious little sidepiece hide in the shadows forever! Drag this out, see who caves first. It's not like you're desperate to run off with someone else!"

Danielle listened in silence, watching the endless river of cars and headlights outside the hospital window.

She remembered the moment she'd thrown those divorce papers in Alexander's face. She'd been ready to be the one to end it.

But for Millie's sake—after that slap—he'd beaten her to the punch.

Kirsten was right. It was their daughter, Niki, who'd been hurt, while Millie stood by and made snide remarks, even angling for custody. Danielle's slap had been justified.
