The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 138

Alexander was determined to prop up Millie's entire family, and there was nothing Danielle could do about it.

All she could do was focus on her own responsibilities and keep her head down.

Of course, news like this didn't escape Kirsten and Gian's notice either.

Kirsten watched Danielle closely, waiting until she finished her call with Vivian before breaking the silence. "You really think these headlines are just going to blow over?"

Her voice trembled with barely suppressed fury. "Honestly, I wish I could just throttle those two—him parading around with marital assets to bankroll his mistress, and Millie flaunting the 'Mrs. Davidson' title everywhere she goes. It's disgusting."

Danielle had long since made her peace with Alexander and Millie's relationship.

Clinging to the past would only lead her down the same miserable path as before.

"Life's too short to waste time on things that don't matter," she said quietly.

Kirsten stared at her, half-convinced Danielle had lost her mind.

Who wouldn't be furious seeing their husband out in public with his mistress?

"If you ever change your mind and want to raise hell, call me. We'll go together," Kirsten said.

Danielle just laughed softly, teasing her for being childish.

By the time she left work, the sky was heavy and dark, the promise of rain hanging overhead.

Niki's collectible had arrived that day, so Danielle planned to stop by the house to pick it up.

Mornings were always a rush, so she usually took a cab to drop Niki off at school. This evening, as she stepped out of the office, she hailed a taxi to the house she and Alexander once shared.

It was nearly seven by the time she arrived.

Just as Danielle was about to get out, the sky opened up, rain pouring down in sheets.

She paid the driver and made a dash for the porch, shielding her head with her hand. Still, the rain came so suddenly and so hard that she was soaked through before she reached shelter.

Shivering, she brushed the water from her clothes and rang the doorbell.

She waited. No one answered.

The night air was cool and damp, and her wet clothes clung uncomfortably to her skin, sending a chill through her whole body.

She started to tremble from the cold.

Someone should have been home at this hour.
