Felix shook his head and placed the toy car neatly next to his pillow. "It's fine. He'll be back tonight."

"Mhm," Clara murmured, leaning down to press a kiss to her son's forehead. "Come on, Mom's taking you to see your new kindergarten today."

She had originally planned to fly back to Heron Bay herself to handle his withdrawal paperwork. All of Felix's developmental files, medical reports, and vaccination records were there, and they required a guardian's signature.

But when Simon heard her plan, he shot it down instantly. "Don't bother flying back. All that running around will just make Rhys sick with worry again. I'll do it."

Clara had felt it might be difficult since Simon wasn't a relative or a legal guardian.

Simon hadn't cared. "I'm already tight with the principal. If it's really that much trouble, Felix can pay me back when he's older."

With the paperwork taken care of, Clara decided to use the next few days to get Felix acquainted with his new environment.

The new kindergarten was just across the street from their place. The facilities were excellent, featuring bilingual education and top-tier security systems.

She introduced Felix to the principal and a few teachers, completing a comprehensive pre-enrollment assessment.

The little guy had always been highly adaptable. He hadn't shed a single tear on his first day in Heron Bay. Instead, annoyed by the loud crying of the other kids, he had found a quiet corner to play with a Rubik's Cube, utterly mesmerizing the only little girl in the class who wasn't crying.

Around strangers, he wasn't overly bubbly, but he was always polite and had a beautiful smile.

A young female teacher crouched down and asked for his name. He answered earnestly, "My name is Felix Bridges," then paused in thought and added, "But you can also call me Charles Huntington."

The teacher blinked in surprise, and Clara froze slightly.

Without looking at Clara, Felix reached out and took the young teacher's hand.

"Miss, can you take me to see the slide?"
