The Officer's Runaway Wife and Secret Son novel Chapter 523

The weather was beautiful today. Clara sat in the passenger seat, her eyes constantly darting toward Rhys.

The square outline of the box in his pocket was too obvious.

He pretended not to notice her stolen glances.

Though the impending romance made her heart flutter, today held something far more important.

As they neared Brighton City General Hospital, her heart grew heavy.

At the hospital, a grueling series of tests awaited him.

Blood work, lung function tests, high-resolution CT scans, cardiac enzyme panels, and echocardiograms.

Clara stayed by his side for every test, staring at the monitors, desperately trying to find good news in the complex waves and shadows.

By the time the rushed reports reached Dr. Black, it was already 1:00 PM.

Dr. Black was off duty today but had rushed in when he heard it was Rhys.

He frowned deeply as he flipped through the results.

Clara's voice trembled. "Dr. Black, how is it?"

Dr. Black set the papers down, his expression grim. "The progression of the fibrosis has slowed down, but conservative treatment has reached its absolute limit."

Clara grew anxious. "Can he have the surgery?"

Dr. Black nodded. "The good news is that his heart and other organ functions meet the requirements. There are no absolute contraindications. Overall, he meets the criteria for a lung transplant. He still has a strong foundation."

Hearing that he met the criteria, Clara was about to sigh in relief.
