The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1935

Hearing this, Anthony withdrew his gaze, his dark eyes landing on Roger as he smirked. "You seem much more of a coward than I am."

"Well, as a man..." Roger admitted freely, "You have to know when to bend the knee and when to play the coward. Being shameless is the first rule of survival. I've taken your philosophy to heart, Anthony."

"Tsk." Anthony chuckled lightly, his expression unchanged. "You're a fast learner, Roger. But I can't take all the credit."

The man's skin was much thicker than his used to be.

That evening, they settled in at Imperial Heights.

After resting for a bit, Charlotte sat on the edge of the bed, taking Roger's pulse.

Her expression shifted slightly as she felt something.

"Your body..."

"Hold on." Roger shot her a look to pause, glancing at the door to make sure no one else was around before lowering his voice. "Go ahead."

"What, afraid Stella will find out?" Charlotte pulled her hand back, picked up her glass of lemon water, took a sip, and leaned back, giving him a knowing look.

"Yeah," Roger nodded, admitting it openly. "I don't want to scare her."

"You certainly uphold the fine traditions of The Gates Family." Charlotte's smile faded, her expression turning serious. "The injury to your right hand is indeed severe."

"Will it affect my ability to hold a scalpel?" Roger asked, his face pale.

"How much force did you use to tear the tendons like this?" Charlotte frowned, picking up a pen and paper to write a prescription. "As a forensic doctor, don't you know how important your hands are?"

"Compared to her life, it's nothing." Roger gave a careless smile, acting as if he wasn't the one facing the potential loss of function in his right hand.

Charlotte's pen paused, her expression growing even heavier.

"We'll focus on recovery for a week and see how it responds before deciding on further treatments."

"And if it doesn't heal well?" Roger asked. He wanted to know the worst-case scenario so he could prepare.

Charlotte turned her head, staring deeply at him, her tone grim. "Then you'll have to consider taking a step back from the front lines."
