At Kingswood University, Stella planned to prep for her master's degree now that she was a sophomore. After class, she slung her backpack over her shoulder and headed to the library to look up some research materials.
She hadn't been browsing for long when someone tapped her shoulder. Stella frowned, turning around to see a guy from her class.
"What a coincidence, you're at the library too?"
Stella had never liked guys touching her. Her frown deepened slightly, and her expression remained aloof. "Yeah." With that brief response, she turned to leave.
"I'm prepping for grad school too," the boy said, jogging to catch up. He was tall, wearing a simple white t-shirt and sporting a clean-cut hairstyle that gave him a handsome, youthful vibe. A faint blush crept up his neck as he asked softly, "But I'm not sure which books to read. Could you recommend some?"
Stella pressed her lips together. She really didn't want him following her around, so she pulled out her reading list, placed it on a nearby table, and took two steps back. "You can take a picture of it."
"Okay." He quickly pulled out his phone. After saving the photo, he handed the list back to her, stealing a glance at her face, looking a bit lovestruck. "Thank you."
"No problem," Stella said, taking the list back and walking away.
"Wait..." The boy wanted to follow, but he noticed her quickened pace, realizing she was deliberately avoiding him. Not wanting to annoy her, he stopped in his tracks. He looked down at the photo on his phone and let out a goofy smile.
After finishing her research, Stella packed the borrowed books into her bag, ready to head back to her dorm. The library was on the west side of the campus, separated by a busy street. As she waited for the cars to pass, that same boy's voice rang out behind her again.
"Stella." He was holding a freshly bought slice of cake. He held it out to her shyly, his voice nervous. "Thanks again for the book list. This is for you."
Stella glanced at it, shaking her head as she politely declined. "Thank you, but I'm fine."
"Just take it." He shoved the cake box into her hands and bolted, his face flushed, not giving her a chance to refuse.
"Hey..." Stella stood there awkwardly, balancing her books in one hand and the cake in the other.
