“Mom…”
Emily stopped cold the moment she saw her mother’s face, her smile fading all at once.
Norma glanced out toward the iron gate, but Kenneth was already gone. She frowned. “Come inside.”
“Okay.”
Emily nodded and followed her mother quietly back to the bedroom.
“Where did you go today?”
“The amusement park.” Emily stood in front of Norma, her hands tucked behind her back. She held her mother’s gaze. “Mom, I like being with Kenneth.”
“What?” Norma wasn’t sure she heard right and frowned in confusion.
“Even if I can’t remember everything… even if I don’t know who he is,” Emily said, her fingers twisting together, her voice earnest. “Whenever I’m with him, I just feel happy.”
Norma listened to her daughter, her expression growing heavier with every word.
“And…” Emily hesitated, biting her lip. “I can feel that he truly likes me. Honestly, the way he looks at me… I just know.”
There was no way those eyes or his actions could be fake.
“Emily…”
Norma’s throat felt dry as she opened her mouth, her voice rough and soft. “Is it really him, no matter what?”
She knew this memory loss wouldn’t last forever. Once Emily took the remedy, everything would come back to her, her feelings for Kenneth included. Years ago, Norma couldn’t stop it. After everything that happened, she didn’t feel sure she could change her daughter’s mind now.
“Mom.”
Emily sat down beside her mother and held her hand, her eyes turning red as tears threatened. “Just give him a chance. Please?”
