Andrew stopped in his tracks as the voice behind him droned on, his patience gone. “I don’t like her. Stop trying, it’s pointless.”

“What?” Dorothy’s eyes widened. She hadn’t expected him to shoot her down so bluntly. For a moment she was so furious she could barely get her words out. “What did you just say?”

“I said I don’t like her.” Andrew turned to face his mom, shoving his hands deep in his pockets. His dark eyes, so much like Anthony’s, didn’t flinch. “And anyone else you try to set me up with, I won’t bother with them either.”

Dorothy’s fingers curled tight, her face turning an angry shade. Her whole body tensed, like she wanted to march over and snap him out of it herself. “She’s amazing... how could she not be good enough for you?”

“It’s me who’s not good enough for her.” Andrew’s lips twisted into a sarcastic smile. “You know what your son’s like. Please, don’t drag some poor girl down with me.”

He didn’t wait for a reply. With his mother glowering behind him, Andrew walked away and disappeared before she could say another word.

“You—” Dorothy was left standing there, frozen, her blood pressure spiking so high she nearly lost her balance.

Sensing the tension, her maid rushed over to steady her. “Are you alright, madam?”

“That son of mine is going to be the death of me,” Dorothy grumbled, pushing the maid’s hand aside and slumping onto the sofa. She pressed her fingers to her forehead, barely calming herself. “I don’t understand it. That girl’s smart, her family’s powerful. If he married her, he’d have everything—big advantages for taking over The Blair Group.”

But her son just wouldn’t listen. He kept sticking up for Charlotte too, over and over. Maybe he’d really been led astray by that girl.

The maid helped Dorothy settle into the sofa and dared a soft question. “Do you think Andrew might already like someone?”

Dorothy’s lips tightened and her brows drew together. She’d never heard about Andrew having anyone he liked. Was he really hiding a secret relationship from her?
