The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1569

Shirley slipped in behind Charlotte, determined to stay invisible, and hurried into the car. The others got in one after another.

By the time Mr. Lane came rushing over, the car was already just a puff of dust in the distance.

"Did I really just imagine that?" He ran a hand over what little hair he had left, his weathered face pulled tight in confusion. "No, it was her. No mistaking it. That attitude of hers, I could pick her out of a thousand… even if she turned to ash.”

Hands on his hips, he started grumbling the way only he could. “Don’t tell me she already caught wind that I want her for the physics department and now she’s dodging me on purpose?”

His assistant nodded, looking thoughtful. “Could be, but honestly, the med school is also eyeing Charlotte. We didn’t say a word about hiring her. Didn’t want them to swoop in and beat us to it.”

“Then why is she hiding from me?” Mr. Lane’s brow was practically tied in knots, his voice rising with every word. “Does Lottie not want to see me anymore? Has it really been that long since we talked, that she forgot about me?”

The assistant just opened his mouth then closed it again, keeping quiet. If Mr. Lane got started, he could complain a whole hour without missing a beat. No wonder Charlotte kept her distance.

“That settles it.” Mr. Lane’s mind was made up. Still grumbling, he pulled out his phone and found Charlotte’s contact. He typed out a message and hit send.

His assistant happened to catch a glimpse and nearly choked in surprise. Who would have thought the famously stern old professor could be so… cute when it came to Charlotte?

Meanwhile, Charlotte’s phone buzzed in her hand. She was sunk into the back seat, going through an email from the International Medical Alliance. The message was short and straight to the point. Cabinda University’s medical department didn’t have the guts to contact her directly, so they reached out to her through the Alliance, offering her a sky-high deal to join their staff.

At Cabinda, even the lowest-ranked professor was a PhD, and there was no shortage of big shots who’d studied overseas. Letting Charlotte teach, when she hadn’t even finished college and didn’t technically have a degree… well, that was definitely a first for them.

[International Medical Alliance: Black, would you consider their offer?]

[Black: Nope. Too busy learning new things. No time.]
