The short-haired actress turned quickly, surprise all over her face. “From Jeva?”
“Mm-hmm.”
She nodded, her voice low and tinged with jealousy. “She must have some serious connections to get Jeva to lend her a dress.”
Sabina was certainly well-known, but the industry had plenty of stars who outshone her. Take Emily for instance. She was everywhere these days, even more popular than Sabina.
The short-haired actress leaned closer, eyeing Emily, who was staring at her phone without the slightest expression. In a near whisper she said, “I heard Emily’s team tried talking to Jeva too, but got turned down. Sabina, though? They agreed right away. Think about what that means.”
“Sabina’s dress is the most expensive look here tonight. She’s bound to steal the spotlight.”
The short-haired actress let out a soft click of her tongue, smirking like she was settling in for some top-tier drama. “Now I really want to see what Emily’s dress looks like.”
Losing out to a longtime rival, only to get dragged by both fans and the press… That kind of humiliation would be brutal.
The two actresses shared a glance. They were both looking forward to the mess.
Emily could feel the sidelong stares, but she just ignored them. Everything she cared about was on her phone right now.
She sent Kenneth a quick text: Charlotte gave me the dress. Do you think there’s any way out of that endorsement deal?
He replied: The contract is already signed.
That meant breaking it would cost her—a lot.
She frowned and typed: So what should I do?
He wrote back: You could always make it up to me.
Make it up to him? She read the message, thinking back to all the times he’d flirted with her. Suddenly her face felt hot, despite herself. His messages were getting bolder lately.
After thinking it over, she sent another message: Why don’t you back out? I’ll cover the penalty for you.
