Before Adela even had time to react, Charlotte had already slipped her hand into Emily’s and they headed straight inside.
"Adela, do you know who this J really is?" Adela’s agent stepped up, her tone tight with worry. "She wouldn’t actually try to snatch the project from StoryVenture, would she?"
"Snatch it?" Adela shot the agent a glance, then looked over at Charlotte and Emily, all chummy together. The corners of her lips curled in a careless smile. "A three-hundred-million-dollar project isn’t something just anyone can walk off with."
That’s what she said, but… when she thought of J's easy but icy voice and the way she handled herself at the signing event, the agent couldn’t shake the uneasiness.
"Don’t forget, this project’s distribution rights still need approval from the national broadcasting network," Adela said, giving her agent a look full of confidence. "If she even tries, I can make sure this project gets buried."
"That’s true." The agent nodded, coming around. "Anyone smart wouldn’t want to make you an enemy."
It was an open secret by now that Adela had some serious backing.
Making her mad would be the end of this project.
...
Inside the conference room, the project manager glanced over at Charlotte with a friendly smile. "The script department already reviewed it. J, your script is fantastic."
Honestly, it was the best thing he’d read in years. As long as they found a good director and a strong cast, this show was practically destined to blow up.
"Thank you," Charlotte replied, her voice cool as ever. She turned to Emily, who was buried in the script, and her lips curved into a soft smile. "So, what do you think? Do you like it?"
Emily nodded so hard it was a wonder her head stayed on, shuffling closer to Charlotte with excitement. "It’s brilliant!"
Charlotte was honestly a genius.
"As long as you like it," Charlotte said, giving Emily’s hair a gentle ruffle.
Everyone else in the room just stared at them for a moment.
Was J always this doting? Were they... together? What was their deal?
"J, please sign here." A staff member set the contract and files down in front of Charlotte. "Once you sign, the project moves into filming."
