The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1335

“You ruined everything just by being born. You stole all your father’s love from me.”

Newell’s heart skipped a beat when he heard his mother’s words. He slowly looked up. “What?”

“I never wanted to have you.” The truth was out. Damaris clenched her hands so tightly her knuckles turned white. Her bloodshot eyes stared at Newell, cold and unblinking. “It was Emery who said having a baby would make our family complete.”

Newell felt like his legs had turned to concrete. He stood frozen in place, unable to move at all.

“And then?” he asked quietly.

“Emery wanted a child, so I gave him one.” Damaris’s voice softened a little when she mentioned her late husband. “But after you were born, everything changed.”

She looked at Newell again. Any softness in her eyes was gone, replaced by something sharp and bitter. “Emery adored you. Every day, the first thing he did when he came home from the lab was check on you. All he ever talked about was you…”

“After you came along, he spent more time with you than with me. You were all he cared about. You filled up his heart, his mind… everything.”

She took a shaky breath. “How could I stand it, knowing my husband couldn’t love me completely?”

Even if the other person was her own son.

“Even the night he died, he was still thinking about you.”

The more she spoke, the paler Newell became. His face was almost ghostly now.

“I used to imagine, over and over, that if you had never been born, Emery wouldn’t have dragged his tired body home every night just to see you. Maybe he wouldn’t have gotten so sick so fast…”

Newell went quiet for a long moment, then gave a crooked, almost mocking smile. His voice was cold, a little distant. “So you think my father’s death was my fault?”

“You can’t deny your responsibility.” Damaris’s voice was icy. She turned away, staring at a photo on the wall. Her eyes shimmered with tears. “I never should’ve had you.”

After those words, Newell said nothing more. His lips twisted in a sad, bitter smile.
