The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1331

Charlotte froze for a moment when she heard Allanson speak. Her calm eyes stayed fixed on the old man in front of her. He looked so different from the first time they met. Back then, Allanson was the powerful head of The Hawk Family, someone who seemed untouchable. Now, his white hair stood out, his face was hollow, and his brown eyes showed every year he had lived. He seemed so much smaller, a man weighed down by regret.

So, Allanson regretted losing her grandmother. But what difference did that make now? It never mattered who showed up first in someone’s life. What mattered was who stayed. Her grandmother ended up with the right person for her. As for Allanson, she could only think that everyone with a sad story had made their own mistakes. Everything that had happened was because of him.

“I’ve said everything I wanted to,” he told her, voice rough. “You’re pregnant, you shouldn’t push yourself. I’ll take over as head of The Hawk Family for now. But the genetic mutation research needs to start right away.”

Charlotte turned her head to look at him, her eyebrows pulled together just a little. “You can leave now,” she said quietly.

He probably knew she didn’t want to be around him anyway. After he finished speaking, Allanson turned away, staring out the window. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking. Charlotte watched him for a second longer, then picked up her box and left.

The door clicked shut behind her and the sound seemed to echo in the room. Allanson felt it, somewhere deep in his chest. After a long while, he forced a bitter, lonely smile.

Charlotte made her way to the entrance. As she stepped out, the Hawk Family’s men lowered their heads and greeted her with respect. She was the future heir of The Hawk Family now. Everyone knew that, which meant this island would be hers one day, and no one dared to cross her.

“Where’s G5?” Charlotte asked, her face unreadable as she scanned the group.

“She’ll be out in a moment,” one of the men replied.

Right then, footsteps sounded from not far away. Charlotte turned, watching as a woman in her sixties approached. She had graying hair, but she moved with purpose and energy.
