She had always thought her destiny was just to make a comfortable living. She never expected her life to suddenly take off after a heartbreaking divorce.
Not only had she gained a phenomenal husband and wonderful in-laws, but her financial luck had skyrocketed. People were practically lining up to hand her money—and refusing to take no for an answer.
Thinking about all of this filled Vivica with gratitude, and even her attitude toward her biological parents began to soften. She looked at Hillary, hesitating for a moment before speaking softly. "If you're feeling up to it, maybe tonight we could..."
She stopped mid-sentence, suddenly remembering she was just a guest. It wasn't her place to extend an invitation. That should come from Cheryl or Raymond.
But Raymond hadn't returned from seeing the lawyer out, so she turned her gaze to Cheryl. Cheryl looked utterly stunned, caught off guard by the suggestion.
Cheryl had already noticed her sister's subtle longing. Hillary clearly wanted to share a meal with her biological daughter and grandson, but feared her failing health and mobility issues would make her a burden. She hadn't dared to ask.
Cheryl had actually been planning to send a car to the hospital to pick up Hillary and Hayes right before dinner was served. They couldn't be discharged entirely, but they surely had enough energy to slip out for a short meal.
Before she could even set the plan in motion, Vivica had taken the initiative. After a moment of shock, Cheryl's face lit up with joy. "Yes! Absolutely. We'll have your parents come over tonight for a big family reunion!"
Both her parents? Hearing this, Vivica and Joseph exchanged startled glances.
Hayes was completely paralyzed and battling severe complications. Just lying flat in bed was agonizing for him, and he constantly needed supplemental oxygen. Could he really leave the hospital for a dinner party?
Joseph worried that the back-and-forth travel would take a toll on Hayes, turning a joyous occasion into a tragedy. Vivica shared his concerns. She frowned, hesitating for a few seconds before asking, "But... wouldn't that be too dangerous? Will the doctor even allow it? Especially..."
