"But they released a video online, didn't they? It showed he was framed," Holly, who was also there, couldn't help but speak up for him.
"As a lawyer, her husband must make a lot of enemies. This is obviously a revenge plot. Why would a wealthy heir need to force himself on anyone? He could have any woman he wants without causing himself this kind of trouble."
Besides, the police statement was detailed and logical; it didn't seem fabricated.
A colleague next to her waved a dismissive hand. "Oh, please. With AI these days, videos can be faked so easily. How do you know it's real?"
Vivica was usually kind and easygoing, but that didn't make her a pushover.
Her face fell at the comment. She walked right up to the gossiping colleague, coffee cup in hand. "You're so sure the video is fake? Why? Did they hire you to make it?"
The group fell silent, their faces turning pale.
"Vivica, we were just chatting. Don't take it personally," Holly said, attempting to smooth things over with a smile.
Vivica glanced at Holly and gave a slight, tight-lipped smile in acknowledgment before her gaze hardened again on the other two. "You both work in tech. You should be able to tell if a video is real or AI-generated. You don't even trust an official police statement. It just goes to show how twisted you are, unable to stand seeing anyone else succeed."
The silence in the room deepened.
The two who had been questioning the story pursed their lips and lowered their heads. "We're sorry," one of them mumbled. "That was petty of us. Please don't mind what we said."
They nudged each other and scurried away in embarrassment.
Holly turned to Vivica. "Don't listen to them," she said kindly. "They're just jealous and probably get a kick out of seeing you in trouble. But I believe in your husband. Mr. Baird has a great reputation. It's not like the rumors say. He must have made an enemy while working on a case."
