“Who are you trying to fool? The boy is Joseph’s son,” Loretta insisted.

Quintina was equally confused. “Loretta, did your brother get something wrong? Did Mr. Baird actually say Chaim is his son?”

“Yes!” Loretta declared with certainty. “My brother said Joseph told him himself. When Fletcher asked if the child was his, he didn’t deny it.”
