The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 273

“Alright,” Joseph said, taking the phone.

He ruffled Chaim’s hair, motioning for him to keep eating. He gave his parents a nod before turning and walking outside with the phone.

“Is there anything else, Ms. Lynn?” he asked, his tone still laced with sarcasm.

Vivica didn't seem to mind. Unfazed, she replied gently, “You must not have slept well with Chaim last night. Why didn’t you call or video chat me when he was crying in the middle of the night?”

As Joseph walked away, he held the phone naturally, so all she could see on the screen was his sharp, well-defined jawline.

“It was three in the morning. What good would calling you have done? Could you have flown back? Or should I have flown over there with a crying child?”

It would have just woken her up and made her worry. Though he didn't say it, Vivica understood his unspoken point.

“To be honest, I was worried about you both last night. I woke up a few times and wanted to call, but I was afraid you were asleep and I’d wake you,” Vivica explained softly.

Her words softened the hard lines of his face, and some of the coldness in his expression dissipated.

“You wanted to call but didn’t. Sounds like you didn’t want to that badly,” he retorted, sounding like a pouting child fighting for attention.

Vivica chose not to argue. She understood he was trying to be considerate, so she maintained her pleasant tone. “Taking care of Chaim these few days must be exhausting. I’ll make it up to you when I get back.”

“You’re always talking about making it up to me, but I have yet to see any action.”

“This time is different. I’ll bring you back a gift, okay? Is there anything you want?”

It was the only thing she could think of, though she knew a man like him wanted for nothing.

As expected, Joseph shot back, “When you give someone a gift, shouldn’t you put some thought into it yourself instead of just asking them what they want?”
