At this point, Vivica knew there was no escape. To save Chaim, this was a step she had to take. She would do it even if it were for a scumbag like Fletcher, let alone an exceptional man like Joseph. For her son, she would walk through fire.
“Joseph, thank you for being willing to sacrifice so much for Chaim. I don’t know how I can ever repay you for what you’ve done for us.”
Joseph frowned. “Why are you suddenly bringing this up?”
“I’m willing to do anything to save him, too,” Vivica said, her heart pounding against her ribs. “But please, just give me three more days to prepare myself mentally.”
She had a business trip on Tuesday and wouldn't be back until Friday night at the earliest. A week should be enough time to build up her resolve. Besides, if she calculated correctly, her fertile window would be approaching in a week. If she was lucky enough to conceive on the first try, it would save them a lot of trouble later on.
Joseph looked a little surprised, a flicker of astonishment in his eyes. “Are you… agreeing to it?”
Vivica simply nodded.
“I already gave you three days to think about it, and that time has passed. Why do you need three more?” he asked, worried this was just another stalling tactic.
“This is different. I mean, in three days… we can start trying to conceive.”
She kept her head down, but the tips of her ears burned a bright red.
Joseph froze for a second. He hadn't expected that to be the meaning behind her three-day deadline. It caught him off guard; he had assumed she meant they would make their relationship official in three days.
A moment of silence passed between them before Joseph collected himself. “Alright, you have three days. After that, I’m moving in here.”
