Chapter 578 Something Is Off
“Well, fancy meeting you two here. Are you here for lunch too?” Esmond spoke up first.
“Yeah. It’s a company team-building. Mr. Jordan, are you eating with a friend?”
Considering how close the Currans and Jordans were, Jeremy should’ve sounded friendlier.
But he clearly didn’t want that kind of closeness with Esmond.
“Yes,” Esmond answered.
Amelia stayed quiet, watching the exchange.
Something about the situation felt off to her.
The moment Esmond noticed her and Jeremy, his face had clearly changed, surprised and unprepared.
And when Jeremy asked about him dining with a friend, Esmond’s reaction didn’t seem natural either.
Amelia glanced at the man standing next to Esmond.
He looked around 30, completely unremarkable.
It was the kind of person she’d immediately lose track of if he were in a crowd.
Still, she felt like she’d seen him somewhere before.
He seemed like someone from PharmaCore 01.
She knew the core team well, but there were only a few of them.
With so many people at the institute, it was impossible to know everyone.
Even so, with her memory, she was sure she’d seen this man before.
“We won’t disturb you then. We’ll be going,” Esmond said politely.
Then he looked at Jeremy. “When you’re free, come over for dinner sometime. My mom still likes you.”
With that, he and his friend walked off quickly,
They looked calm on the outside, but there was a faint rush in their steps that Amelia caught.

Maybe she was thinking too much. Still, something felt wrong.
“I think Esmond was acting weird. Everything looked normal, but it felt like he’d been caught red-handed.”
Jeremy watched them disappear, a quiet suspicion rising inside him.
“You noticed too?” Amelia hadn’t expected him to feel the same. “So it’s not just my imagination.”
That meant something really was off.
“Yeah. The Currans and Jordans have known each other for years. I’ve met Esmond a few times, so I have a rough sense of him.”
Unfortunately, not enough to know who Esmond really was behind the scenes.
If he’d known Esmond would target Amelia, he would’ve kept a closer eye on him long ago.
“The man with him isn’t simple,” Amelia added. “He looks like he’s from PharmaCore 01.”
“I’ll ask my mom to check him out later.”
“No need. I can confirm whether he’s tied to the institute myself.”
Amelia didn’t want to trouble Whitney over small things. She was already buried in lab work.
More importantly, she didn’t want to tip anyone off.
“If they’re hiding things, that means Esmond’s influence reaches pretty far-far enough to touch PharmaCore.”
The possibility made her frown.
“Don’t stress about it. No matter what happens, you’re not alone. You have me.”
Jeremy couldn’t stand seeing her frown and gently smoothed her brow with his fingers.
His touch was light and careful,
“Mmm. Having you around feels really good.”
Usually straightforward, Amelia rarely acted coy, but she did it now,
