The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 272

Chapter 272

Avery’s POV

The hunger pains had gotten worse.

“You need to eat,” my wolf whined. “If not for yourself, then for the baby…”

I clenched my jaw and rolled over on my bed shivering beneath the pile of furs.” There won’t be a baby to worry about if he forces me to abort it.”

My wolf whimpered in response, but she knew I was right. I’d been on my hunger strike since yesterday-hadn’t eaten a single thing since breakfast, which I threw up after only eating a single bite of scrambled eggs.

It wasn’t easy. Not while I was pregnant. And honestly, I didn’t even know if it was making a difference. It felt like I was locked in a battle of wills with Asher, both of us waiting for the other to back down to no avail.

But I would keep going. I’d made my demands: let me keep my baby, or I would starve. His precious “princess” wouldn’t survive. What would he do then? How would he rebuild his so-called “kingdom” without me?

He couldn’t. He needed me. Which meant that he would have to listen to me sooner or later.

As if on cue, the tent flap opened. I expected Deirdre to enter again, holding another tray of food that I would refuse to eat. But to my surprise, it was Asher.

I sat up, pulling the covers up to my chest, and warily eyed the tray he was holding as I slipped the engagement ring onto my finger beneath the blankets.

This time, it was a juicy steak. The scent of the grilled meat made my mouth water, but I clamped my teeth together, refusing to let him manipulate me.

“I’m not eating that,” I said firmly as he approached my bed.

“Yes, you are.” Asher’s eye was still coal-red with the same anger from yesterday, but his voice was low and controlled. He set the steak down on my table and picked up the utensils.

“You can’t make me.”

“Watch me.” He cut the steak with precise, harsh movements, then speared the piece on a fork and approached my bed. The look in his eye made me instinctively leap off the other side of the mattress, scurrying away.

“Get back here, Avery!” Asher closed the distance between us and grabbed me by the neck before I could get away. With no food in my belly, my head spun as I tried to run and I’d become weak. That damn silver ring was burning my skin, too. All I could do was jerk my head back as he tried to shove the fork against my lips.

“No!”

“Just fucking eat it—”

“NO!” I ripped off the ring, and my wolf’s strength surged. I grabbed his wrist just as he pressed the steak to my lips and wrenched it as hard as I could. His skin ripped beneath my wolf’s claws, and he shouted, leaping back and clutching his wrist. The fork fell to the ground, steak and all.

“What the hell?” he hissed, blood seeping through his fingers. “You cut me!”

“I told you I’m not eating.” I snatched the plate before he could pick it up again, stomped over to the door, lifted the flap, and chucked the entire thing outside like a frisbee.

A moment later, I heard a crash and someone shouting, “OW!”
