Something bumped into the back of my legs and I realized that I had backed all the way into my bed and the whole time Gideon’s hands and mouth never stopped touching me.
“Gideon,” I panted against his lips, “What are you doing?”
I was trying to buy myself time. Time to remember exactly why I had been so angry at him. It was so hard to think when he was touching me like this.
“I want you, Avery,” my Alpha’s eyes were fogged with lust, and a wild energy poured off of him in waves, “and I intend to show you exactly how much.”
His hand slid along my arm and grasped my wrist and pulled my hand to the front of his trousers. I gasped as I felt him, solid and surging against my palm.
Despite everything we had done, I blushed furiously.
“You drive me crazy, Avery,” he released my wrist and instead wrapped both hands around my waist, lifting me easily and throwing me on the bed before prowling towards me on all fours.
Something in me snapped, and I crossed my arms and glared.
“You’ll not win me back so easy!”
Gideon snarled but he froze his forward movement across the coverlet.
“You can’t resist this forever, Avery,” he bared his teeth, “I can feel your desire through our bond. Why pretend this isn’t what we both want? What our wolves want?”
I arched an eyebrow at him and tried to keep my gaze above the belt, to prevent distraction.
“Because you don’t deserve me,” I snapped back.
Gideon’s hands ran up my legs as he moved over me until his face was inches from mine. I felt a tugging at my middle, as though an invisible rope tied us together and my mark flared hot.
“Knock it off,” I glared at him and shoved my rejection through our bond. I saw Gideon’s face crease with pain as he felt the emotional whiplash, “I’m not so simple as to be won over by one night under the stars.”
“Three nights, by my counting,” Gideon corrected.
My glared deepened, “So you do remember the Alpha Ball, thank you for finally admitting it! I had almost forgotten how you’d pretended there was nothing between us and made me doubt myself for weeks!”
Gideon scowled, “All that is past! We were starting new. Or have you already forgotten the oaths we took last night?”
“Oh I’ve forgotten nothing about last night,” I licked my lips and watched Gideon follow the movement

with his eyes hungrily, “especially the part where you revealed you were the one who ruined my life!” I scooted myself to the edge of the bed and stood, turning to face him with my hands in my hips, “besides, you’re filthy!”
Gideon rose to tower over me, staring down he rasped, “I’ve been doing your dirty work, Avery. You left me to fight alone. I killed for you.”
His words sent a chill down my spine. Slowly I raised my hand and cupped his cheek. He stilled beneath my touch, barely breathing.
“Blood is cheap,” I whispered, “I can’t build a life built of blood and corpses,” my lips brushed against his ever so gently, “Build something worthwhile, and I’ll consider giving you another night,” I stepped back and pointed at the door, “if you won’t leave, I will.”
Gideon’s hands twitched at his sides and he made a strangled noise on his throat as I pulled away. A
