The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 232

Chapter 232

Avery’s POV

Behind us we could hear the snarls and baying of the rogue wolves as they attacked Gideon’s wolf. I felt a pang of concern, worry that we had left him to be overrun, but my wolf did not stop. Her powerful haunches propelled her forward through the trees with incredible swiftness.

if he does not survive then he does not deserve us, she informed me primly, ‘Even I could hold off that many alone. Let him vent his bloodlust and then we will decide if we will accept his company.”

I thought, not for the first time, that the ways of wolves were so strange. I knew that my wolf did not truly understand why I had rejected Gideon after our coupling. She didn’t feel emotional hurts the way humans did. in 1

When she wanted something, she took it. When someone hurt her, she hurt them back, and that was that. She didn’t understand how you could want something and want to hurt it at the same time. Nor did she hold onto emotions beyond the moment.

She disagreed with my decision to reject my mate after it was revealed that Gideon had been the one who had marked me, though she agreed that had she not been dormant, she would have made him work for it longer.

‘Mate is mate, she told me simply, He is ours, but first he must feel our absence.

We’ll see, I said back to her warningly, “You may be convinced but I am not so sure I am willing to forgive.’

My wolf sent back sympathy for my sorrow. She could sense I was in turmoil, and although she didn’t understand it, she loved me and didn’t like to feel me hurting.

‘What would make you accept him? she asked, curiously.

‘I don’t know,’ I thought, with despair, ‘He confuses my mind.”

‘But you want him,’ she laughed at me, I can sense you crave him the way I crave his wolf.”

‘Ugh, yes, I admitted, ‘But he ignored our struggles for so long, while I have sought to please him in every way. Why should he not now be the one who struggles?

My wolf agreed that we deserved to be pleased, and in the spirit of that discussion, we arrived back at the car. I shifted back to human form and climbed in, turning the keys in the ignition.

Gideon could find his own way back home.

I drove back to Nightwolf Pack with a grim smile on my face. When I returned to my rooms, I drew a hot bath and spent time soaking and relaxing in the lavender-scented bubbles. Then I wrapped myself in my

bathrobe and fell into bed.

I drifted off and awoke to a violent pounding on my bedroom door. I rose from my slumber groggily, and

stumbled to the door.

As my fingers fumbled on the knob, the door was shoved open and Gideon burst into my room, causing me to stagger backwards as he forced his way in. The door banged shut behind him and we stared at each other in the warm yellow lamplight.

He had been running, his muscles flushed and lightly shimmering with sweat. His eyes were bright beneath drawn brows that made elegant slashes across his handsome face.

He was also, quite obviously, spattered with blood.

“G-Gideon!” I stared at him, my eyes sweeping along his limbs to make sure he wasn’t injured, “Are you okay?”

Gideon gave a low, guttural growl in his throat as he stalked towards me. I backpedaled at the furious light in his eyes.

“Gideon??”

“No,” he snapped as his arm reached towards me and his hand gripped my throat, “I am not okay.”
