Chapter 230
Gideon’s POV

In the light of the full moon, the woman beneath me was transformed. Her skin, pale as milk in the moonlight, her lips parted as she panted for breath in the aftermath of pleasure. Every part of her called to me, whispered urging words to claim, to cover, to commit crimes of decency with her body.
She was the most intoxicating wine I had ever tasted, heady and strong. We were still fitted tightly together as her internal muscles locked around me, milking me dry with the rhythmic pulses of her orgasm. Sweat dripped from my brow to the moss below my hand next to her head.
Her claws had scratched furrows of desire along my back, and they stung with the salt from my skin. I loved that she had marked me in this way.
She turned her head to the side and my eyes locked onto the huge, dark bite on the side of her mouth. 1
My bite. My mark.
My body clenched in a final spasm that overlapped with my shock at seeing that claiming mark. I had only ever marked one woman in that way.
My mystery mate.
“You…!” I breathed at the same time her eyes narrowed at me in return, “How did you…? That’s my mark!
The pleasure bled away from her face, leaving her pale beneath me.
“Yours?” she hissed, “So it was you!”
I pulled away as Avery shoved at me to get off of her, and lunged to her feet, ignoring my outstretched hand to help her up. She was lithe and graceful as she moved, and I couldn’t help but admire her figure and the way it begged for me to tug her back, to claim her again and again until she once more screamed my name in ecstasy.
My mind was reeling. This was the woman who had haunted my dreams and made my body ache with her absence. She had been right in front of me the whole time, and I had been too stupid to see it.
“So it was you!” I echoed her words back her, “Why didn’t you ever say? How did you hide it?”
Avery whirled on me as she pulled her dress back up over her body.
“You dare ask me why? Why I didn’t tell my new, contracted Alpha and husband about the man who marked me without my consent in the forest on my first time?” Her voice was as cutting as a scythe, “My Goddess took pity on me and hid my mark so that I could save my own life after you almost destroyed me!”
“Your first time?” I groaned, running my fingers through my hair, “It was mating heat! I felt it, and so did you!”

“Oh yes,” she bit off the words, “I felt it. And then I paid for it. You’re the reason my father threatened to kill me. You’re the reason I was sold to Nightwolf pack like an unwanted slave! Did you ever even feel. remorse? No. You’re the arrogant Alpha who takes what he wants and doesn’t give a damn for the consequences!” 1
“It wasn’t like that!” I protested angrily, “I searched for you for months! I thought you died! You left me here and ran away! I would have taken you with me and protected you, instead I mourned you!”
She looked devastated at my words, staggering sideways. I reached out to steady her but she slapped my hands away.
“If you felt an ounce of regret, then I’m glad!” she retorted, “What was it like for you to not get what you wanted for once? To discover that your own actions caused you to lose something you loved? And then you still dared to marry me after!” She stalked towards me and jabbed her finger into my chest,” Everything I have suffered has been because of you!”
“Now listen!” I felt my own anger surging hot in return, “Losing you broke my heart, after I had thought I didn’t have one left!” My voice choked as I snarled out, “I know what is is to lose someone I loved, it’s all I’ve known my entire life, and you were just the latest! I killed them all, what’s one more??” (1
