Chapter 229
Could I really be pledging myself to this powerful, handsome, and mysterious Alpha with my whole heart this time?
There was something bothering me though, something about this place. I turned my head to survey the clearing once more, and a strange silhouette in the distance caught my eye.
It was an abandoned shack, ramshackled and deteriorating.
I knew that shack. I knew this place.
This was where I had run to when Ryan had cheated on me, the night of the Full Mating Moon. That shack was my favorite secret place.
This was the very glade where my mystery mate had marked me that night.
How had Gideon even known about this place? Or its significance?
Eyes wide, I turned back towards Gideon as he began reciting the oaths that had bound us together so many weeks ago.
As I listened to the ancient words they began to take on a resonant quality. They dropped from the timbre of Gideon’s voice and the vibrations rippled outward, creating a shimmer in the air and buzzing along my skin.
Deep in my mind, my wolf rose from her slumber, shook her ruff, and preened. I felt her desire hit me lik a wall of bricks.
From far away I heard my voice repeating the words, but I wasn’t in charge anymore. A delicious current was running through me, pumping me full of electric desire.
There was a force pulling me, as though my soul had been torn in two, once, and now sensed the other half of itself on the other side of mine and Gideon’s clasped hands.
Did he feel it too? The honey drenching my bones and filling my eyes with amber? Was that a corresponding flash of yellow in Gideon’s stare, like a lighthouse signaling to my floundering heart that treacherous currents were waiting to drag me to my doom?
Then to my doom I would go.
No sooner had the final words of the ceremony rung out into the moonlit clearing than I was tugging on Gideon’s hands like a drowning sailor grasping for a lifeline.
My lips collided with his in a searing kiss that threatened to start a wildfire with our heat. I was burning, burning bright as the brush of Gideon’s hands sweeping across my body revealed long banked coals of yearning finally exposed to fresh air.
And I was not the only one who burned.

Gideon’s eyes were fever-hot and his mouth incinerated my body as he kissed along my skin, drinking me in with lips and tongue. He yanked at the neckline of my dress, spilling my curves out into the night so that he could cup them in his hands and lift them to his mouth.
In his hands, I was molten. In my hands, he was iron. Hard and powerful. I seized him shamelessly, unwrapping his clothing until my fingers found that velvet skin and the hardness beneath.
I needed him. I had never needed anything more. My wolf demanded it.
“Mine,” I growled, yanking up the folds of my skirt to reveal the triangle at the top of my thighs that was slick and ready for him.
“Mine,” he repeated, pumping his fist along his length and laying me back on the soft moss so that he could prop himself up on his arms over me as he lined himself up with my entrance.
I snatched at him, clawing at his shoulders, trying to pull him into me as fast as I could. I needed him to fill me. When he insisted on slowly pushing his way into my body instead, an impatient whine tore from my throat and I bucked beneath him, desperate for more.
My legs wrapped around his lean hips, the tops of his thighs pushing against the back of mine as he groaned and sank in me to the hilt. His eyes were glazed with pleasure as I raised my hips to seat him fully inside me.
