Jason’s voice was low and warm right by Lilly’s ear. “When you’re out there, stand straight, keep your eyes on where you want to go, and let the power build in your arms before you swing. Just focus, aim for what you want, and you’ll get there.”
He sounded so gentle and patient, like the kind of teacher who never loses his cool, guiding her every step.
Thinking of Jace, Lilly spoke up. “You always remind me of someone.”
“Who is it?” Jason asked.
She didn’t answer right away.
Jason glanced down at her. “Why the silence? Was he your ex?”
Lilly nodded. “Yeah.”
“Do you still talk to him?”
A sad smile flickered on her lips. “We haven’t spoken in three years.”
“So why does he still cross your mind? Do you still have feelings for him?”
The question hung in the air. Lilly looked up at Jason. “Thank you for showing me. I think I’ve got the hang of it now.”
She cut him off, clearly not wanting to go down that path.
Jason let her go, stepping back with a small smile. “Alright. Go show them what you’ve got.”
Lilly gripped the golf club, standing still for a moment, replaying Jason’s advice in her mind. Suddenly, she felt someone staring at her. Looking up, she caught Lucas watching her with that same brooding look.
Lucas was relentless, always sneaking glances at her and Jason. First, she helped Jason with his jacket. Now, Jason was practically holding her as he taught her to swing. Lucas’ face looked stormy, like he couldn’t take it anymore.
Lilly ignored him. William called out, “It’s your turn, Lilly.”
She grinned. “Here I go, William.”
Standing tall, Lilly focused on the hole ahead. She moved just like Jason had shown her, channeling her energy through her arms, and swung with everything she had.
