Today, Lilly, Jason, Lucas, and William hit the golf course together. Lilly teamed up with Jason, leaving Lucas and William as the other pair. As soon as the match started, everyone was in competitive mode. Best two out of three, winner takes all.
Lucas grabbed his club with practiced ease. Growing up in a wealthy family, he played golf all the time. He was good, and he knew it.
He shot Lilly a confident grin. “Lilly, there’s no way I’m letting you win today. Just watch how it’s done.”
She shot right back, “Lucas, talk is cheap. Let’s see who actually takes the win.”
Lucas’s eyes sparkled with challenge. “Keep your eyes on me then.”
He lined up his shot, took an easy swing, and the ball rolled right into the hole.
William clapped, clearly impressed. “Mr. Matthis, that was a perfect shot.”
Golf had been part of Lucas’ life for as long as he could remember. He looked over at Lilly, a smug smile on his lips. “See that? One point for me. Let’s see how Mr. Farill does.”
Lilly knew Lucas had skills, but she was a little worried about Jason. She had no clue if he could even play.
She glanced at him, her voice a bit hesitant. “Are you any good at golf?”
Jason’s face was unreadable. He looked at her without showing any emotion. “You’re nervous?”
“Of course I am. I want you to win.”
Without saying much more, Jason started unbuttoning his black suit jacket. He caught the way she was staring at him, and a faint smile tugged at his lips. “Isn’t Lucas your fiancé? Did you break up with him?”
“That ended a long time ago.”
He only replied, “Oh.”
It was just one word, but the look in his eyes said he found it more than a little entertaining.
