Lilly didn’t hesitate. “William, I’m Jason’s girlfriend. Don’t listen to him.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow. “Really, Lilly? If you’re Mr. Farill’s girlfriend, prove it.”
“How do you want me to prove it?”
“Kiss him.”
Was Lucas actually serious? He was asking her to kiss Jason, right here and now. Total maniac.
Lilly looked at Jason. He was already watching her, his cool, striking eyes meeting hers. The moment stretched between them, and she felt her cheeks grow warm.
Lucas pressed on, his voice smug. “What’s wrong, Lilly? Are you scared? I knew you and Mr. Farill were just pretending! I know exactly why you’re here. William hates being lied to. If he finds out you’re a fake, you’re done.”
“I’m not scared?” Lilly shot back. “Jason is my boyfriend. I can kiss him whenever I want.”
Without missing a beat, she got up on her tiptoes, moving in close to Jason. In a low voice, she whispered, “Mr. Farill, this is kind of urgent. Can I kiss you?”
Jason caught the flowery scent of her perfume, and a slow smile appeared on his lips. “Go ahead. If we're going to put on a show, let’s do it right.”
He was in.
Lilly had half-expected him to refuse, but since he agreed, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips gently to his.
His lips were soft, a little cool, and the feeling sent a shiver through her. For a second, a memory of Jace flashed through her mind. Three years had passed. He’d been her first, the one who taught her what it meant to love someone. Every moment they’d shared was still crystal clear.
Lilly’s lashes fluttered. She pulled back from Jason, her heart pounding, and stepped away.
